My goal is to represent the community of Garden City in Topeka as honestly as possible. Our community is diverse and resilient. It is filled with people who work hard, giving everything they have for their families. It is filled with people like you. And you deserve to have someone who will listen to you and stand up for your needs at the state level.
WHAT I STAND FOR
REPRESENTATION
The representatives that we elect should respresent us, meaning the things they say and do should reflect who we are as a community. If you elect me, you are not saying that you agree with all of my opinons and that I can do as I wish. Rather, you would be saying that you trust me to be your spokesperson, the spokesperson for our community. In Topeka, I will seek to help our people thrive by making sure that our community needs are seen, heard, and addressed.
DEMOCRACY
I believe in the idea of democracy. I believe that everyone's voice should be valued and heard, that we all should play a role in our governance. I believe that we should get to choose our representatives. I am running because you deserve a choice, and if you choose me, I will make sure your voice heard.
TRANSPARENCY AND COMMUNICATION
In order for me to effectively represent you, effective, clear, frequent communication will be key. I will actively seek out your opinions and thoughts on the issues State Congress is addressing. I plan to use surveys, email, social media, and in-person events to do so. I will also keep you updated on my work, both the ups and the downs.
LISTENING
A part of communication that is especially important to me is listening. I have developed a network of people all across the politcial spectrum, and this helps me to make informed, balanced decisions. I am running on the Democratic ticket while my husband is Republican. Listening to different viewpoints has frequently transformed the way I see the world. Our differences create an opportunity for dialogue that leads to creative creative problem solving.
ROLE OF THE GOVERNMENT
The Government exists to serve us, to enrich our lives and make them better. For example, here in Garden, our local government enriches our lives through things like the fire and police deparments, the zoo, the big pool, Downtown Vision, and more. Our state governement should be doing the same. When they tax us, they should be using those taxes to make our lives better in real, tangible ways. It is also their job to ensure that the largest burden of taxation lies with those who can afford it - the extremely wealthy - so that those of us who work hard every day can actually have the opportunity to make our lives better.
PRIORITIES
My focus will always be on the families of our community, especially the most vulnerable members of our families - the children, the elderly, the sick. When we raise up the least among us, the community becomes a safer, more beautiful place for all of us to live in. Quality education, access to affordable daycare, access to healthcare - these things and more are basic essentials that our community deserves; therefore, I will fight for these things, for the needs of our community, for you.
